EYSC Website Launch

The Essex Youth Scrutiny Committee’s website was officially launched on Saturday 18 April 2009 in the Council Chamber Foyer at Essex County Council.

Councillor Elizabeth Hart, Chairman of Essex County Council welcomed everyone to the website launch. Councillor Kay Twitchen, Chairman of the Children and Young People Policy and Scrutiny Committee gave a brief talk about the Essex Youth Scrutiny Committee. The Essex Youth Scrutiny Committee will be treated as a typical Essex County Council scrutiny committee and given the same support and guidance. The committee’s final report will be presented to the Scrutiny Board and will form part of the Scrutiny Board Chairman’s report to Full Council.

Ms Justine Dewey, Director of Cariad Marketing, the company who designed the website, gave a talk and a demonstration of the website.

The Essex Youth Scrutiny Committee was then presented with their accredited certificates – v50 awards. This is part of the vinvolved national volunteering programme. Their certificates are in recognition of the fact that they have completed 50 hours of volunteering for their community.

Back in February 2009, the young people had a residential training week at Bradwell Outdoors. The young people had a workshop with Cariad Marketing and they had a competition to design a logo for their new website. The winner of this competition was Joedy. She won an iPod which has her name and a copy of her design engraved on the back of it. Councillor Hart and Councillor Twitchen presented Joedy with her iPod. This was the end of the launch.

The young people went on to have a session with Justine Dewey from Cariad Marketing. They were shown the site in a little more detail, shown how to register on the forum and they were asked to create pages regarding the Essex Youth Scrutiny Committee on various social networking sites such as Twitter.

The Essex Youth Scrutiny Committee would like to thank those who attended the launch to show their support for the young people and they ask that they continue to support them in the future.
